I had the idea for this upon seeing the theatrical trailer for 'The Social Network' before 'Inception' (Which I liked quite a bit... I think he was in reality at the end.)

It's a parody of that ridiculously dramatic trailer. What if Youtube got it's own equally dramatic movie too?

I should have put this up a long time ago. I was interviewed by 'The Guardian', the acclaimed newspaper from across the Atlantic. It's not every day that you wake up to a phone call by a polite Scottish Journalist asking for an interview.

Wes Anderson's Spider-Man

The 'Wes Anderson Spider-Man' Video I wrote and directed is picking up a fair amount of steam, being featured on the Huffington Post, College Humor, Slash Film, Kevin Smith's Twitter and Paul Scheer's website.... good news abounds.

Now I wanted more than anything to have Bill Murray as Uncle Ben, but, in my opinion, no one can impersonate Bill Murray. He stands alone. I was thinking of having a photo of him pop up, but that would be a legal/copyright issue and who knows what ill would come from that.

Still though, I am humbled and amazed at the overwhelmingly positive response the video has received. I try to work hard at creating things I find funny, and its validating to find that others enjoy it as well.

Cold-Open of Christmas-Past

It's almost 5AM; I don't feel like sleeping. I didn't necessarily accomplish anything in the 1AM-5AM period, but I'm glad I stayed awake. I saw some old Belushi stuff, listened to some Tom Waits, and ran across one of the earliest scenes I can remember from Saturday Nite Live on the wonderful www.hulu.com .

Steve Martin will probably be written on in the future, but this cold-open sticks with me as the best SNL open. Vibrant, smarmy, and self-deprecating- everything SNL should be. Plus, it's wonderful to see the wondrous Roster of the early 90's together again: Phil Hartman, Mike Meyers, Kevin Nealon Chris Rock... lovely little clip about the joy of putting on a show.

As far as inspiration, I remember watching this on a rusty VHS Tape I borrowed from my neighbors ... I don't remember returning it, so it's probably still in the cabinet in my house. I remmeber watching this and wishing more than anything that my 13 year-old self could participate in that video... even to the point of planning out a recreation video of it at my school... I couldn't get enough people to help. Maybe one day I shall.

Blog the First

I have never blogged before, but I'm lounging in the campus library thinking of where life shall take me. If things go my way, I'll be writing satires and engaging in sword duels on staircases and chandeliers, but life rarely goes the way we wish it, so contingency plans are necessary. I don't necessarily want contingency plans, for they often are followed at the slightest sign of setback or trial, but it may be foolhardy to blaze into life bereft of any alternate pathway in mind.

Gloominess is a symptom I've dealt with. I'm not the most sociable person, nor the kindest in conversation or womanizing, but I do enjoy comedy. I'm not an expert at it, but I find myself constantly studying it, constantly in awe of it and wanting more. Good comedies are few and far between these days, the same could probably be said in any age, but the ones which are "Good" (Hard to say "Good" in a universal sense because comedy is different to everyone. Prisoners in a Soviet-Era gulag probably have different mannerisms about what humors them than I or any Middle-Class American would) leave an impression on me which always warms my heart to what we humans can compose. Slapstick is well and good, but I find myself constantly drawn to one scene in particular that, without fail, has cheered me when my clouds grow gray and inspires me to write loftier.

It isn't knee-slappingly hilarious, but it is one of the more profound things I've seen in a comedy film. Life, for all it's bummers and crucifixions, is to be cherished and looked upon with a laugh. It might've gone poorly but at least we gave it a shot, right? The Pythons summed up their view on existence without falling into conventional views of over-glossed optimism or undisturbed despair. They show life for what it is: Something of a cruel joke, but a joke nonetheless.

This is a rambling blog, my first blog actually, but I think I'll come here to post things which inspire me. Below is the Funeral Eulogy for Graham Chapman, star of 'Life of Brian' (The film posted above.) His Funeral inspires me to pursue comedy wherever it shall lead me, for if you've made someone laugh, you've done your good deed for the day.
